If you're one of those people who would have gotten one of the slick new 15" MacBook Pros but just can't bear the thought of using a glossy LCD screen, then you need to know about TechRestore. The electronics repair service, known for its speedy repairs of Mac laptops, has introduced a new service that trades the glossy screen for silky matte goodness.

When Apple launched the new unibody MacBook Pro in October, plenty of folks griped about the glossy screen and were upset that there was no matte option. Those folks where further incited when Apple announced a matte screen option at Macworld Expo—but only for the new 17" MacBook Pro. For those people, TechRestore's "MacBook Pro Unibody 15" Matte Finish Screen Upgrade" will get rid of that glare for you for the low, low price of $199.99 plus shipping.

The service apparently replaces the entire screen. "Our beta testers on this service have told us they do not like the anti-glare covers since they tend to distort images and make color matching very difficult," reads the company's website. The glossy glass cover is removed from your 15" MacBook Pro, and the LCD panel is replaced with a matte-coated LCD panel that has "exact same specifications as the original." The replacement is finished off with a matte-surface black bezel that perfectly complements the screen, and has the necessary holes for the iSight and microphone.

When asked about a matte option for other Mac notebooks, a technician named Paul told Ars over the phone that there was "way more interest in the 15" MacBook Pro." He said that the company was looking into an option for the unibody MacBook as well, but that nothing was for sure at this stage.

Befitting TechRestore's reputation for speed, your newly-matted MacBook Pro will be returned to you by overnight shipping within 24 hours of being received, so you'll only be without your machine for about three days if you opt for the two-way overnight pick-up option for $99. Other shipping options can save you some money in exchange for slower shipping.
